PostHeaderIcon 4 Common Affiliate Mistakes To Avoid

Myths concerning affiliate marketing are appealing and attractive. Eager beginners are prone to believing that it is something capable of giving them great fortune overnight. Stories concerning affiliates who earn tremendous amounts of money swim in their heads, and while these stories are true for several super-sellers, there are those who believe that they are going to have the same fortune once they indulge in this particular business.

It is true enough that affiliate marketing is financially rewarding. People who have worked very hard in this venture have seen some great successes. Many of them enjoy the kind of existence that was not possible for them to have had under ordinary circumstances. Having gone through the A-Z school of affiliate marketing, however, these people are the ones who know that while such business is lucrative, there is absolutely no easy money in it.

Ignorance of this fact is one of the main reasons why there are people who fail miserably in their internet marketing business. They do not know that there are those who have wasted time, effort and too many resources in trying to pursue the life of ease that they believe this business will give them. So they go into affiliate marketing armed with nothing but myths and fantastical notions of wealth swimming in their consciousness, never realizing that they are bound to make mistakes that would prove to be their downfall.

What may be the reason why, in businesses such as affiliate marketing, many get caught up but few are successful? Perhaps the answer lies in the fact that many affiliates do not have the facts concerning how the entire business runs. Affiliate marketing is not as simple as an affiliate promoting a merchant’s wares through his website and getting paid for it. It is also about knowing the market and finding the customers for that niche.

Discovering the most common mistakes affiliates make can perhaps help to correct some wrong notions about it. It might also be able to make those concerned understand that like any other business, there are do’s and don’ts involved if they want to make each of their steps count. The first common mistake affiliates make is their lack of knowledge concerning principles involved in their business. This refers to the affiliate’s knowledge of search engines, in particular.

Affiliate marketing involves advertising, and advertising through the internet has gotten so much better with the existence of search engines. What every affiliate has to do is to make these search engines his best friend through studying search engine optimization closely. This way, he is able to know what to do in connection with building a better website to ultimately use for his business.

The second is that affiliates make the mistake of stuffing their sites with banners that do not provide enough information about the product at hand. The best way to battle this mistake is to provide good content hand-in-hand with such banners, or totally refuse to even use them. It is important for customers to know and understand the features of a product, and good content will be able to help them realize this goal.

(When I started in the then pretty new world of Internet Marketing 15 years ago, I was guilty of one of those slow-loading, banner laden UGLY web sites and pretty much signed up for every affiliate program I could find, sure that THIS was the way to make the “big money” we were hearing about. Suffice it to say that when I started whittling down the number of products I was willing to promote and started compiling, instead, a select group of products that fit special niches, my marketing had a lot more success.)

The third is that there are affiliates who make the mistake of promoting only one product. Consequently, customers are not given enough options to choose from. There is also the risk of generating fewer sales as compared to having more options for customers to ponder over. It is always better to give them a few better alternatives than to give them only one.

The fourth is that there are affiliates who make the mistake of promoting too many products. As a result, customers are confused and end up beyond making a choice. It is perhaps good to give them only the best choices. This is because it is ultimately up to them to judge which one is the best for them to patronize.

All in all, affiliates that are doomed to fail in this business are those who do not exert enough effort to understand everything involved in the industry that they are in. Knowing their path step by careful step will prove to be beneficial to them, as there is no other way to succeed than to go through any path slowly but surely.

I admit, I am not much of a marketer, but I do happen to have one of the longest running Internet Marketing newsletters left on the net :-)

PostHeaderIcon New Marketing And Promotional Ideas

New marketing and promotional ideas …

Most are related to internet-based businesses, but even those
can usually be adopted in some way to other businesses.

Here are half a dozen marketing ideas to get you thinking.

A one-hour coupon. Offline businesses that want to increase the traffic to their websites can announce an “internet coupon” good for a free drink (or whatever). The coupon would be up on the site for an hour, sometime on Friday, for example. Visitors will return again and again to try to be there at the right time to get the freebie. If you collect pay-per-click advertising fees, this repeat traffic might be especially profitable.

Free gift article teaser. A free gift is certainly not a new marketing idea, but it hasn’t been done much in internet article “resource boxes.” My click-throughs from articles increased when I started putting in the author’s resource box, “For more information and a free gift, visit…” The gift is usually a short course, or an e-book. If you don’t want to write an e-book, you can find one with free distribution rights.

Word links for sale. Maybe you have heard about the entrepreneur that sold a million pixels on one web page for a dollar each. Advertisers could buy a minimum of 100, and the image would link to their sites. I’ve seen many copycats, but I haven’t yet seen anyone selling words. This could be even better for advertisers, because they could buy the words that are relevant to their products. A page full of random words isn’t pretty, but these things get publicity and traffic for their novelty.

Product user contests. If you have a product that’s used in many ways or many places, this is a great promotional gimmick: a contest to see who has used their cell phone, watch, or whatever in the wildest place or the most unusual way. (“I took my walkman to the north pole!”) Customers could post their stories and photos directly to your company web site. They would return repeatedly to see new stories, and the results of the competition.

Advertising on cereal boxes. A lot of time is spent staring at cereal boxes. Perhaps you could get a good rate on advertising on them. They have had some advertising, but no boxes covered in ads yet. Brokering ad space on cereal boxes could be a good business to get into.

Pay for article placement. Many of us distribute articles to generate traffic to our web sites, and many also pay to advertise. Since articles are especially good marketing tools, why not pay to have other webmasters put them on their sites? This is done for free now, but not often enough. Maybe offer a small one-time fee, with a minimum time commitment. Explain that leaving the article there forever can generate search engine traffic.

Put ads on private cars, advertising on sidewalks, have a contest to see who can get your product mentioned on and seen on TV – there are endless possibilities for new marketing and promotional ideas.

PostHeaderIcon Effective Links Building Strategy

This article illustrates how can one utilize an effective link building strategy to increase Search Engine Ranking Positions. It includes several very useful, easy to implement methods.

Organic search engine traffic is often considered to be the holy grail of traffic sources. It is free, plentiful (depending on your niche), and Internet users across the globe use search engines. However, as any seasoned website owner can attest, search engines can be as fickle as fashion styles.

One day you are Number 1 and the search engines love you. The next day your site has been nonchalantly pushed to page 47. No rhyme or reason or “Dear John” letter. In order to balance out these inevitable downgrades, it is equally important for site owners to master the art of link building.

Link building is defined as locating other targeted sites in your niche, and either exchanging links with them, or having them link to you. The latter of the two – one way links – are considered to be the most ideal option amongst link building professionals.

Obtaining links from other sites basically gives you targeted traffic. And in many cases, links from other sites can last forever. Because of that aspect, it is important to incorporate this tactic into your overall online marketing plan.

The following are some of the suggestions to construct effective link building strategies.

Put some link bait on the hook. Link bait is marketing lingo for – “create content that will absolutely, positively compel other site owners to link to you.”

It is typically an article or a blog post that has a definite “WOW!” factor. What creates that “WOW!”? You can put together a huge list of helpful resources for people in your niche. Better yet, go beyond the name of the site and the URL and include a comprehensive description. Tell why you like the site, or how it is going to help your site visitors the most.

Purchase text links. This is probably the most frequently used link building strategy. This is also one of the fastest ways to generate one way links without breaking a sweat. There are many directories that specialize in matching text link buyers and sellers. These directories are good because you will find a number of sites to choose from in almost any category. Plus, you can read reviews from other text link buyers in your niche.

Obtain blog reviews. A simple way to build links to your blog is to get blog reviews. The concept is basic. Someone reviews your blogs content – you get a link.

Blog reviews are great because someone is actually giving specific details about your site, rather than just one line of text (which is what you will get with text links). If you do a search for “blog reviews” you will find several sites offering the service. Depending on the site, you may or may not have to pay for the review.

As you can see, link building is not hard. It does require time and commitment. But the payoff – increased targeted traffic – makes it well worth the effort.
