Why Just Being Online Isn’t Enough

Guest Post by Donna Toothaker

It wasn’t too long ago that small business owners could put up a website,
maybe add a blog, submit an article or two to online directories, do a
little search engine optimization and they would do fine getting website
activity and making sales. That process just doesn’t work anymore.

You can no longer BE online without being ACTIVE online.

And here’s why – you need to build relationships now, not just show your “brochure”
and wait for sales to come to you. These days, when people are cautious about spending,
they want to feel more comfortable about what they are purchasing. They want to “know, like, and trust” before they’ll purchase a product or service.

Here are three things you can do immediately to start building relationships,
become known as the expert in your field, and create the “know, like, trust” factor.

1. Ezine: Most businesses already have an ezine.

BUT – many are not utilizing it to its fullest potential.

If you’re not in front of your readers on a weekly basis at MINIMUM –
you’re missing the boat. Monthly ezines don’t work like they used to.
You MUST stay in front of your audience more regularly.

Your weekly ezine should be brief. A personal introduction, an article of relevance
on your area of expertise, an “about you” section and a recommendation are all
you need.

You need to show your personal side in your ezine.

People want to know YOU and get a sense of your personality and values.
Often I talk about my family in my ezine because family is my number one value.
People will resonate with that, or they won’t, but the point is, I’m sharing
what’s important to me and people want to buy from people with similar values.

2. Blog regularly: Sure, most business owners have a blog, too.

But it’s important to be blogging regularly.

People won’t subscribe to ezines quite as much anymore, due to email overload,
so it’s important to blog. Posting three times per week is ideal – but at a minimum
you should be posting once per week.

There are other benefits such as SEO (search engines LOVE updated content)
but for the scope of this article the primary benefit is relationship building.

Blogging is another avenue of building “community.”

Having comments open will allow people to ask questions, and share
their own opinions. Blogging is another way to show your personality.

3. Social media: Every business owner MUST be on Facebook, LinkedIn
and twitter. If you’re not – you are missing out in a big way.

Social media marketing is so important for building new relationships.
From these new relationships you’re able to generate activity to your
website, create interest in your products, and become known as the
expert in your field. Not only might you generate new business,
but you may create some joint venture opportunities.

Social media isn’t what “the kids are doing,” it’s what serious
business owners are using now to build important relationships.

Don’t wait for people to find your website – get active online,
build new relationships and watch the sales and new opportunities
come rolling in.

PLR article & web site editing

Not having any writing skills to brag about and not being at ALL talented with art or graphics skills, I am a huge fan of PLR, or Private Label Rights products. I am also a digital *junkie* so do admit to purchasing every interesting or useful ebook, article pack or instant biz type item I can find.

Luckily, with PLR products, we are allowed to edit them as we see fit. We can change the names, web site info, resell at any price we choose and most importantly, to ME, a proofreader, can fix the often few but sometimes MANY typos and run ons and other annoying mistakes.

I had been searching my last few months worth of downloads, knowing I had purchased a book on copy writing but having forgotten its NAME, having quite a time of finding it! I am usually very organized, but for some reason lately have been remiss in filing all downloads in my handy categories for easy use.

Well, great news, last night I found it! It is a really informational and interesting ebook of an interview with Alex Mandossian, done by Louis Allport, titled 10 Steps To Killer Web Copy.

Over the past twelve years, Alex has made his clients and himself over $184 million in sales. Yes, you read that right!

He’s the marketing consultant many internet experts consult with.

The book is exceptional BUT I have to be honest here, the mini-site salespage was coded to where it was all one LONG line, instead of the usual from top to bottom format, AND half of the words IN the salespage were all run together with no spaces. I am not sure if this was an accident and a proofreader / editor was needed or if it was done to make the reseller “work”, but it took me almost two hours to edit the salespage and get it ready to use.

This is just one of the many services your Virtual Assistant can perform for you. And, if you purchase the above product, I will edit YOUR salespage, except for your name and website info and payment information, for FREE.

Remember, I am a Virtual Assistant who LOVES to do editing,
proofreading and transcription assignments!

Blog & Web Page Virtual Assistant helper

Today, as I was editing different areas of several of my own web sites,
I realized yet again that although I actually LOVE doing this task, a LOT
of bloggers and webmasters DO NOT. This is just one more reason you might have to consider having your own Virtual Assistant .

Yesterday, I celebrated TEN YEARS of being the editor of my online newsletter for marketers and small business owners, Rim Digest ezine
and spent a couple of hours last night and a few more today updating the many pages
on that domain and some here at my Virtual Assistance site.

I do quite a bit of proofreading for clients, both on their web pages and in their advertisements or email newsletters, but rarely make updates like changing dates, facts, resources, etc. and yet I realize this is another part of editing that is very necessary for those who have online businesses.

My dream, to be honest, is to someday be so busy with my Virtual Assistance assignments that I can hire my own helper to do the things I do not like to do or take up my time and keep me from doing those I love to do. The first thing I would want a helper to do for me would be to assist with my eBay store , which is my biggest time waster. I do not want my eBay listings to be the same boring, blah blah cookie cutter stock descriptions and images but really nearly go into a coma with the monotony of looking up each movie, book or memorabilia item I sell on eBay and giving each an exciting description.

Maybe until that time comes I will be lucky enough to find someone who LOVES doing that kind of task and hates doing his or her own editing work and we can swap! Hey, if I am going to dream, why not dream big?

Remember, I am a Virtual Assistant who LOVES to do editing , proofreading and
transcription assignments!
